A Birmingham-based health and wellbeing company is the latest tenant to sign a deal for offices at 54 Hagley Road, the landmark office complex in Edgbaston.

The profit-for-good company, which was founded in 1873 as The Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund, is moving its 150 staff from nearby Darnley Road, after agreeing a three-year lease for 3,900 sq ft on the 13th floor, as it looks to grow the business.

Incoming BHSF group chief executive Heidi Stewart said: “I speak for the whole BHSF team when I say we are delighted to start our next chapter at 54 Hagley Road. Eminent Birmingham surgeon Joseph Sampson Gamgee set up the organisation to help fund Birmingham hospitals and we are proud of these philanthropic roots and our many years at the Gamgee House headquarters on Darnley Road.

“Our clients’ and our own workplaces have evolved considerably over recent years, not least during the last 18 months. The set up at 54 Hagley Road provides us with superb facilities to accommodate our teams including our support and administration functions, who will be working on a hybrid basis.

“September will be a double celebration for us as we not only look forward to welcoming everyone back to the ‘new normal’ working patterns but into a brand new environment.

“This is a real time of growth and opportunity for us as we increase awareness and understanding of BHSF’s products, to ensure that more employees across the UK have easy access to the very best mental health and wellbeing support.”

54 Hagley Road is owned by Aberdeen Standard Investments, which last year invested £3 million in a refurbishment that transformed the entire ground floor, with new amenities including generous break-out spaces, new large reception area, open-plan cafe/business lounge, meetings and conference rooms, fitness studio with locker and shower facilities and extensive bicycle stores.

It has also introduced its ‘plug and play’ suites for ambitious businesses, providing fully furnished suites for companies to move in and begin work immediately without substantial upfront costs. Mission Translate, a translation company, has already taken 1,843 sq ft on the 14th floor on a five-year lease.

Joint letting agent Richard Williams said: “It’s great that 54 Hagley Road has attracted such a historic Birmingham name, attracted by its first class, modern facilities. The investment that the landlord has made to make this building the best in class within the Edgbaston market is really paying off.”

54 Hagley Road is well connected, with a new Metro stop immediately outside due to open later this year, providing access to Birmingham New Street within a few minutes. The building also lies outside the planned Clean Air Zone (CAZ).

There is office space from 1,843 sq ft to 50,123 sq ft available at 54 Hagley Road. For more information, contact joint letting agents: George Jennings, 07900 678125, george.jennings@avisonyoung.com, and Richard Williams, 07468 727158, Richard.Williams@colliers.com
